Eerdere winnaars blikken terug op wat de BBC Awards voor hen betekend
hebben
Arthur
Krebbers, Public Speaking Award winnaar 2003 schrijft: "The
Public Speaking Awards have been a great catalyst for me academically
and personally. Since winning the competition, I have gone on to
complete my VWO diploma with a 9 average, and obtain a First Class
Honours degree from the London School of Economics. I particularly
value the communication and persuasion skills I have been able to
master. This has allowed me to excel within journalism (writing
articles for, for instance, NRC Handelsblad and the Guardian), politics
(functioning as executive member of the students union) and
business (interning at the Boston Consulting Group).
The BBC Awards offer Dutch students a unique opportunity, and I
strongly encourage everyone to take part and enjoy the public speaking
experience!"
Maite
Vermeulen, Young Writers Award winnaar 2005 schrijft: "Winning
the BBC Young Writer Award 2005 has had major impact both on my
academic career and my social life.
Regarding academics, I decided to take English language education
at University College Utrecht, encouraged by a friend I met at the
BBC Awards finals. I definitely had an advantage getting accepted
here with this kind of title on my name.
The Arvon Writing course has left me with a love for writing unknown
to me before. At University College, I am exploring the importance
of the English language in current society, and have the opportunity
to improve my writing skills further.
Concerning the social aspect, I made friends around the globe during
my trip to London, and the course in Scotland. Now, two years later,
I still email frequently with people from Bulgaria and Armenia.
These kinds of contacts are precious and can of course be useful
in my later career.
The BBC Awards have opened my eyes for opportunities of the world
outside the Netherlands. I hope they will open yours too! "
Kimberly
Camu, Public Speaking Award winnaar 2006 schrijft: "Winning
the BBC Public Speaking Awards in 2006 was most of all a mind-blowing
experience. It helped me get over my fear of public speaking and
I realized that it was something I wanted to pursue. Currently I'm
studying History & Journalism at Leiden University and it is
my aspiration to become a journalist. The BBC Public Speaking Awards
granted me the opportunity to visit two major news broadcasters,
the NOS and the BBC. Subsequently, I've also been offered an internship
at both - an amazing offer! So besides being a unique challenge,
the BBC Public Speaking Awards are a good way of developing yourself
and a stepping stone for the future. "
