Ingrid de Beer graduated from Utrecht University in English language and literature. Her Master thesis was on the concept of the Seven Deadly Sins in Medieval English literature. After graduating, she taught English at a secondary school, which was soon followed by a teaching position at the James Boswell Institute - Utrecht University. She has gained extensive experience in teaching presenting and writing in English to academic (PhD) students. With the development of English streams in both secondary and higher education she has been involved in content-integrated language learning and has given many Teaching in English courses.
Ingrid is a member of several professional organisations for teachers (IATEFL, TESOL, ACTFL) and regularly visits their conferences. She is a certified examiner for the IELTS exams and Oral Proficiency Interviews (ACTFL) and a senior English language trainer at the James Boswell Institute-Utrecht University.
Away from work, English has also played an important role in Ingrid's life. From an early age, she encountered English. As a school girl she had American friends. When she was a Girl Guide leader in Zeist, she organised many activities with the Girl Scouts of the US Air Force Base in Soesterberg. Moreover, while visiting relatives and friends in Canada on numerous occasions she had excellent opportunities to practise her English.
More recently, Ingrid has been the National Secretary of the Netherlands-England Society (GNE), already for eight years now. One of her tasks is to assist in the organisation of the Young Writers and Public Speaking Awards. Over the past three years, she has accompanied the Dutch finalists to the International Final of the Public Speaking Competition in London organised by the English-Speaking Union. On top of that, she very much enjoys travelling to English-speaking countries. All in all, Ingrid is both an Anglist and an Anglophile.
