Winners of this year’s BBC Awards are announced in Amsterdam
14 Apr 2010The BBC Public Speaking Award 2010 went to Roza Rashaan (age 16) of the Christelijk Lyceum, Delft, for her speech on the topic, „Travel: Broadening the mind or destroying the planet?‟. The runner-up of the BBC Public Speaking Award 2010 was given to Marjolein Wiersma (age 18) of the Gomarus College in Groningen, for her speech „Social networking: Keeping in touch or losing touch with reality?‟

The BBC Young Writers Award 2010 was awarded to Renate den Bak (age 17) of De Passie, Utrecht. The runner-up of the BBC Young Writers Award was given to Wim van den Berg (age 19) of the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede, Ede. Renate den Bak chose to focus on the topic „Social networking: Keeping in touch or losing touch with reality?‟ and Wim van den Berg wrote on the topic ‘How has the internet changed your world?’.

5 Jun 2010 For the Organising Committee of the 2011 Awards it’s ‘all systems go’ as we set up the competitions for the school year 2010 – 2011. In view of your planning we are very pleased to give you the important dates:
31 Dec 2010 - Closing date for pre-registration
28 Jan 2011 - Closing date for final registration and decision on topic and title. This is also the date on which participants in the Young Writers Awards have to submit their entry
26 Feb 2011, 5 Mar 2011, 12 Mar 2011, 19 Mar 2011 - Preliminary rounds Public Speaking Awards at various locations across the country.
26 Mar 2011 - Semi-finals Public Speaking Awards. Publishing date shortlisted entries Young Writers Awards
9 Apr 2011 - National Final for both competitions
Dutch winners compete in London
27 May 2010 The BBC Public Speaking Award 2010 winner and runner-up travelled to London in May to compete in the prestigious English Speaking Union's international speaking competition.
Roza Rashaan (right) and Marjolein Wiersma (left) narrowly missed out on the Grand Final, but nevertheless had a memorable time in London.
